Miami Dolphins cornerback Xavien Howard, who did not practice all week with a knee injury, will not play against the New England Patriots on Sunday, according to a league source.

The Miami Dolphins are expected to rule Howard out of the game on Friday.

[Update: Dolphins coach Adam Gase confirmed the news to reporters Friday afternoon.]

Gase also said guard-center Jake Brendel, who reinjured his calf during practice this week, also will not play against New England. Brendel started the past three games -- two at left guard and one at center.

The Dolphins are not without good news. Receiver Danny Amendola, who missed last week’s game with an MCL injury, is expected to play against his former team.

There's actually reports saying that Howard will miss multiple games, but nothing official.

Facing the Patriots without your best DB...ugh....

wow, this team really does seem snake-bit. something has got to be wrong with the way this team prepares players physically in order to have so many critical injuries. and while i'm sure the current regime will use the injuries as an excuse, lets be honest - even fully healthy, this team was not among the better half of the league. the defense has been relatively healthy (and even with Howard up until now) and still been rolled over by most all the teams they've faced. and even when the offense had its "playmakers" in Wilson and Grant and key FA OL acquisitions, they had piss poor 3rd down and redzone conversion rates.
