The last dynamic play maker?
Who do you think was Miami's last dynamic play maker on offense?
The last time we had a dynamic play maker had to be Ricky Williams.

Re: The last dynamic play maker?
I would say Williams and Landry were the last consistent playmakers we had.
We've had several playmakers since then - Drake, Wilson, Grant, Ajayi, Parker, Gesicki, etc. - but the problem with all of them is that most of the time they are simply just good players (or garbage, in Grant's case)...their playmaking ability doesn't show up enough.

and their talents were waisted by ineffective head coaches and a collapsible defenses.

I would say Puffy Williams was the last THREAT Defenses had to focus on.
Nobody since then though.

I really like how far Gesicki has come. That one handed catch last season was unreal. He's got the juice, I like his chances to turn into a real star.

Agreed. But he needs to show up every week, and not just a few games a season.

Yep. He's getting there, what we've seen is encouraging, but he's not there yet...

He's got some of the best hands in the league IMHO...big catch radius and never drops passes. I think he just needs to continue to improve his route-running. But yes - he's getting there. I just hope the Phins can afford him when it comes time for a new contract.

and his blocking. a great TE needs to be able to block too. there are WRs half his size he block better than he does.
but what amazes me is that despite being faster (supposedly quicker) than many other TEs, he never seems to get nearly the separation like Kelce and Gronk, etc.

Agree, and I wonder how much of that is route running and how much is play design? I would *guess* the Reid / Arians coaching staff are doing a better job designing plays to break their targets out into the open. It can't be as simple as route running - the separation is too good

I've given up hope that he'll ever be a good blocker! LOL
I think the lack of separation is due to his somewhat-sloppy route-running...which IMO is partly due to his awkward running style. Even though he is fast, he has an odd stride...not really sure how to explain it. But yes, I think the other part is scheme/playcalling.
Re: The last dynamic play maker?
good point. its probably also because Miami wasn't putting any WRs on the field that defenses feared. more often than not, it was Gesicki that was drawing the double teams. how much tighter would Kelce get covered if Hill and Hardman weren't stretching defences?

Sadly, we just haven't had that many since the SB runs from 1970-1985. If we use the criteria of multiple seasons, I think that Williams in 2002-2003 is the last one. At WR, though I respected what McDuffie and Fryar brought and Parker had a fine year in 2019, you'd have to go back to Duper/Clayton.

Can't call Landry a playmaker, not with his measly 10.1 yards per reception as a Fin. He was basically a high-end, next gen Davone Bess (who averaged 10.7 yards per catch BTW).
Chris Chambers has the 5th most receptions, and 4th most yards and TDs in franchise history but he wasn't a playmaker either. In fact he was an analytics whipping boy for his awful sub 50% catch percentage.
Ronnie Brown? Brandon Marshall? Naaaaahhhh
But hey, we'll always have Hartline and his thousand yard receiving season with only a single TD! That's something, right?
(Breaks down sobbing.)

Re: The last dynamic play maker?
Landry was absolutely a playmaker. He made so many key plays as a Dolphin, on a team with no one else around him. Unfortunately, he played slot receiver in an offense that rarely threw the ball further than 5 yards.
Slot receivers usually average 10-12 yards a catch. Landry averaged 12.1 yards in 2016. Wes Welker only had one season of over 11.5 yards per catch in his 12-year career.

Why did you all make me do that, go back and look at that laundry list of average joes? I feel terrible now. I could have learned a trade in the time I've spent watching this dumpster fire over the years.

Yeah, it really hasn't been time well spent, has it?
But it will all be worthwhile when we see Tua (in a Miami Dolphins jersey) holding the Lombardi Trophy.

The only way Tua ever touches the Lombardi trophy is if Rodgers or Watson lets him. (Rim shot.)
Jmp left that hole so wide open I just couldn't resist
