Dolphins Extend Durham Smythe

He must be exactly the kind of TE they want, extended him through 2025:

Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, Smythe’s extension is worth $7.75 million with $5.5 million fully guaranteed. The tight end will also get a raise and make $4.5 million in 2023.

I have a So. Fla friend who insists the Dolphins are content with what they have at TE. And probably will not draft a TE. Who knows?

They may not look to the draft and sign a free agent Vet TE who gets cut during camp?

We have three right now in Smythe Suabert Conner.

Would we really carry four on the roster? Especially with the fullbacks we carry?

I guess if the value is there (right player) we could draft one and cut Saubert or Conner but how much of an upgrade is that? Would like to think better value and immediate impact elsewhere….

Good extension - Smythe is a reliable, solid all-around TE.

I see Smythe and Saubert as very similar players - good blockers that can contribute in the passing game.  Really, that's all this offense asks for from the TE position.  

I do think we'll draft a TE at some point, but unless Washington is there at 51, it won't be till day 3 IMO.

Connor is a developmental receiving TE. He could be a practice squad candidate depending on who we add..

Smythe is Good at what he is , A Blocker and a Short Pass Outlet, Be Nice to see Connor be able to Contribute more this Year.
