Anyone Else Remember This Guy?
Ex-Pats WR Shawn Jefferson, who was literally knocked out by Zach in the '96 opener, is not the Fins' WRs coach, which is somehow something I didn't know until just now And he still likes mixing it up apparently.

Here's the hit BTW.
Jefferson BTW missed one game afterwards. One. Game. Yeah.

I like everything I've heard about him so far - sounds like he will be a real good coach. Looks lioke he can still play...the Phins could use him on the field!

Wow I remember that game. I was in Chicago travelling for work, saw it at a sports bar.

Today, that would be a 15 yd personal foul for helmet to helmet. Hell, mot likely a fine and possible suspension. That is how they have pussified today's NFL. Mind you, you have to look real close to see if the helmets even touched (not the point). It looked bad. They might even call that hitting a defenseless opponent.

Actually, Jefferson is classified as a runner on this play so he's technically not defenseless. But yeah, today even if it wasn't a penalty at the time Zach would've been fined at the very least. And yes, the helmets barely graze each other.
That's why the new rules are so stupid. If someone's running with the ball they're still subject to hits like that legally. For example, the hit that damn near killed Pat White was perfectly fine since he was running past the LOS (as Dan Dierdorf kept gleefully pointing out at the time). But if it's a QB or a receiver who's left his feet then the same hit is suddenly a no-no. Whatevs.

Dog and pony show. They have the technology to end most concussions. They just don't use it because it's not cool-looking enough.

Yup. Had anti-concussion helmets 25 years ago. The NFL only cares about stuff when they're forced to, and even then they try not to. Players are only just now realizing their true role is to be disposable meatbags, and they're getting angry about it. Problem is, they don't really have a leg to stand on when half of them love to slap women around and the other half openly say they'd do it all over again even with the risks. It certainly doesn't help their cause when guys like Jefferson who literally got KTFO are still getting physical with players in drills 20 years later.
