Branden Albert is first player the Miami Dolphins should cut this offseason
Robert Molner wrote:Having it’s best season in a number of years this past season, the Miami Dolphins offensive line finally seemed on par with the rest of the league. Spending the last few years looking like a high school unit in their protection, the Dolphins finally found some consistency this season, leading to less sacks of Ryan Tannehill and a greater rushing effort from the offense.
That said, all was not great in Dolphins-land. Mike Pouncey missed massive patches of the season with a recurring hip issue, something that led to musical chairs at the center position. The guard play was good, but Laremy Tunsil is the left tackle of the future and Jermon Bushrod is not getting any younger.

I have to agree with getting rid of Albert. He is not reliable enough to stay healthy all season. Miami definitely need to get a replacement.

The main reason to get rid of Albert is Tunsil. I've said this before: Tunsil is a left tackle, and that's where he needs to play. He's mediocre at guard, but he can be a very good - maybe great - tackle. It doesn't make sense to play him out of position for a second straight season. Albert is unreliable, but he's also not the future of this team. Time to move on and put together a better offensive line - with your best player at his natural position.
Now, if you want to keep Albert and move him to right tackle, putting James on the bench, I'm fine with that. I'm for anything that gets Tunsil at LT.

Albert has been a solid leader on this team. It's sounds easy for us but the team needs to be careful on how this is handled. I'm okay cutting Albert if that money is spent on the two best FA guards. But cutting him just to save money I'm not a fan of. We're not hurting for cash.

Yep, I agree with that. If you cut him, spend that money wisely. Adding at least one veteran starting guard would be smart.

Albert can also play OG himself, though his salary is higher than you'd like for the position. But flipping him and Tunsil might not be a bad idea either.

Yep, I forgot about that. He did play some guard in college. Like I said, anything that gets Tunsil to left tackle is OK with me. That should be the plan.

The main issue isn't how to keep him but the issue is will he stay Healthy enough to play the whole season.
That probably my biggest issue is who would replace his leadership skills on the OL. Pouncey is not there and Tunsil doesn't seem like he command the respect for it.

Tunsil has to step up and be that guy. Top 15 pick, (hopefully) starting left tackle - he needs to grow into a leadership role.

Albert is an excellent LT.
He cannot stay healthy.
I'd get rid of him for that reason alone.

It is really tempting - $8.9 million could get you an elite guard and all you have to do is slide Tunsil over to LT. Interesting decision for the team.

You also have the issues:
Will Pouncey be healthy?
Can James be more than meh?
Can we find two legitimate guards?
