Desperate times call for desperate measures is the best explanation for why the Miami Dolphins signed veteran offensive tackle J’Marcus Webb two days before Sunday’s season opener against the Baltimore Ravens.

Webb, an eight-year veteran who has started 65 games, most recently played for offensive line coach Dave DeGuglielmo last season in Indianapolis. DeGuglielmo has been forced to patch up the left side of Miami’s offensive line, following last week’s trade of left tackle Laremy Tunsil to the Houston Texans.

...

Webb, 31, will be playing for his sixth NFL team. He only played one game last season before the Colts placed him in on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. He started that game at right tackle, and did so for most of his tenure with the Seattle Seahawks in 2016.

...

As for Van Ginkel, the Dolphins’ fifth-round pick has been bothered by a lingering foot injury since the second week of training camp. He’ll be eligible to return at midseason as the NFL allows two players to come off injured reserve after week eight.

Van Ginkel, a former Wisconsin standout, didn’t play in a preseason game because of his injury and had been limited during practice this week.

The Dolphins had envisioned using Van Ginkel as a pass-rushing specialist, primarily coming onto the field on passing downs. That role is now up for grabs between newcomers Avery Moss, Vince Biegel, Trent Harris, Deon Lacey and James Crawford, who were all added this week, either via trade, free-agent signing or waiver-wire claim.

Webb has barely played at all since 2016 due to injuries, so I'm not expecting much. At least he's got a ton of experience and is at least somewhat familiar with Dave DeGuglielmo. Webb has played LT, RT and RG in his career. I think I'd rather get Richmond Webb out of retirement if we had to sign a Webb, but experienced depth isn't a bad thing, I guess.

As for AVG...totally sucks to lose a pass rusher, but the facts that he didn't play in preseason and we acquired a similar player in Vince Biegel pretty much sealed his fate. Hopefully he'll come back strong.

My brother just told me that J'Marcus is Richmond's cousin! So I wasn't that far off! LOL
