Question For Hal? Empty Question For Hal?

Post by DolFan 316 Sun Sep 13, 2015 9:51 pm

Then again, anybody else can chime in too if they want Smile

Where does this rank among the ugliest opening game wins in Fins in history? Just off the top of my head, there was the 27-24 squeaker over the 1-15 Pats in '90 despite a -4 turnover ratio, somehow letting a 20-3 4th quarter lead over the Browns turn into a 23-20 deficit before pulling it out in '92, and gumming their way past Indy 16-10 in '97 with Marino throwing for just 105 yards and a TD--to the Colts. Can this win really be uglier than any or all of those? Shocked Hard for me to believe, but if you say it is I'll take your word for it.

(BTW all three of those teams also won the next game. Just sayin' Cool )

The 1997 win was uglier IMO. That was at home.

That's what I thought as well. I watched that one at the house of a friend of a friend and came away not quite believing it was even a win. The only good thing about that game was a rookie JT literally stalking Jim Harbaugh into submission. And the next game was at least as ugly IMO. The Fins were 2-0 and I was actually LESS convinced they'd make the playoffs than I was before the opener!

I noticed you didn't say anything about the other two games though Neutral

I barely remember the 1990 game with New England. That turned out to be a solid team though. Agree that the Houston Oilers second week game in 1997 was even uglier. The 1992 season opener at least had some excitement to it, we did dominate that game thoroughly for three quarters, and the team had an excuse for the inconsistency: the first week game had been postponed due to Hurricane Andrew, giving us our bye in week one. Despite that, it turned out to be the most successful Dolphins season of the past 25 years.

Well, this game just confirmed my suspicions that the team is not that good.

Of course, it is week one, and you must try hard not to overreact to week one.

A road win in the NFL is good anyway you can get it IMHO.

But when some have such high hopes for the Phins, it HAD to be a BODY BLOW to see how bad they looked on defense and offense, especially in the first half.

They were thoroughly OUTCOACHED in the first half. If the Redskins had not lost so many guys to injury....

I agree about not overreacting to one game, but is it overreacting when the exact same problems that have haunted us for three years are STILL evident this season? It's a pattern at this point, and the common denominator is Philbin and his staff.

I think there is a saying about doing the same thing over and over and thinking the results will be different

From watching our game and then the Bills game from Sunday, all I can say is I wish Philbin had a foot fetish.

316 has said it many times, a team takes on the personality on the field of its coach.
