The Sun-Sentinel can confirm Joe Philbin has been fired and Dan Campbell is the interim coach of the #Dolphins.

I don't care how this changes this season...but it was clear that Philbin had to go and I'm glad Ross had the balls to actually do it.

I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders. Watching Philbin has been torture. I don't expect the team to get better any time soon, but the fact that I won't have to see his clueless, Mr. Magoo stare anymore makes me happy.

I'm beyond excited. Philbin , from day one, made me embarrassed to be a Miami Dolphins fan.

Heard a few minutes of the Dan Campbell press conference on QAM.  He sounds strong and confident...the opposite of Philbin.  Sounds like he is going to stress accountability and competition - two things that were non-existent under Philbin.  I think the fact that Campbell is an ex-player will go a long way toward winning over the locker room.

I'll probably get a better feel for Campbell after I watch the press conference (I set the DVR on NFL Network), but right now he sounds like the anti-Philbin, and that's a step in the right direction.

a Lot of people on other boards want the Fins to Hire Jim Schwartz as DC, Since he was pretty good with Buffalo last Year and it is working a Desk job with the League right now, Plus he know Suh better than anyone and has always been a good DC.

he says he wants to be more aggressive and have guys competing during practice, but something (he didn't say) that i liked to hear...

Campbell was given the authority to fire maligned defensive coordinator Kevin Coyle and any other assistants. Campbell had not informed Coyle of a decision, as of midday, but several media outlets have reported Coyle is expected to be fired.

Ross said he does not believe Dolphins players quit. "Word would get out and other people would be talking" if that happened.

He said he didn't consider changing coordinators instead. "I believed it was time to replace at the top."

oh how i wish if by "replace at the top" he meant himself.

It was my post about wanting the fans to march on team HQ and burn it down that set the wheels in motion. Once someone told Ross about that post he was like, "Damn...I'd better do some firing to calm that guy down!"

That's my story and I'm sticking to it

But seriously, the timeline of events seemed to lead directly to this, with Philbin appearing totally safe at first, then Ross thinking about it, then announcing he would be making a decision today. Somebody somewhere got to him, believe it.

I know how this is going to play out. I'm going to become a big fan of Campbell. The team will play hard and fight to a 7-9 finish. Ross will want a big name and Tannembaum will want his guy. Campbell will eventually get another head coaching position and be highly successful. It's the Dolphin way.
