Aaron Rodgers to Jets is official

Not directly Dolphins news, but I'm putting it here anyway...

For their part, the Packers receive the 13th, 42nd, and 207th selections in this year's draft and a conditional 2024 second that would become a first if Rodgers plays more than 65 percent of the offensive snaps in 2023. Rodgers and the Packers burned numerous bridges this offseason after the two had been gradually falling out over the previous three seasons, leaving the proverbial door closed on a return to Green Bay. The Jets get their aging veteran quarterback while the Packers move forward with former first-round draft pick Jordan Love. Initial reports indicated the hold up on the deal was New York's 13th overall pick in this year's draft, making the inclusion of a non-performance-protected 2024 conditional first-round pick a significant win for general manager Brian Gutekunst and the Packers.

So, Jets get:
Rodgers
Packers 1st round pick this year (#15)
Packers 5th round pick this year

Packers get:
Jets 1st round pick this year (#13)
Jets 2nd round pick this year (#42)
Jets 6th round pick this year (#207)
Jets 2024 2nd round pick (becomes a 1st if Rodgers plays over 65% of Jets snaps)


Damn, that's a lot to give up for a QB that might not play more than one season! I still have the Jets in 3rd place in the East, missing the playoffs, but they wanted to go in all in on Rodgers so there you have it.

Actually I think the Jets came out ahead in the deal. Still retaining a first this year only two spots below their original one is grand larceny. Who cares about giving up a 2nd and a 6th in this draft after that? If Grier really does trade up into the first like he keeps hinting, or ends up trading for Cook he'll pay a significantly bigger price guaranteed.

That having been said, this won't be a Brady/Stafford story where Rodgers gets a ring right away with his new team. His play is slipping, his new teammates (and coach) will quickly notice what a diva he's become and after the Jets fall short yet again he'll retire. They couldn't make the playoffs with Favre in the exact same situation, so I'm not scared about that. What I *am* scared of is that they'll get just good enough to derail the Fins and keep them from making the playoffs/getting a better seed.

BTW, did Rodgers ever get vaxxed? Because where he's moving to is really anal about that. If he's not then there's a situation where the Powers That Be might not allow him to ever set foot on the field. Or they could be complete hypocrites and declare that Rodgers is the one person in the entire state who's allowed to not be vaxxed. Either way it'll be...interesting.

Well, forgetting all the lesser picks involved, the Jets are giving up a 2nd this year and a 1st next year - for a soon-to-be 40 year old QB that hasn't won anything significant in 12 years and might only play one more season. If they win a Super Bowl, it's worth it. If they don't win, they got fleeced.

And keep in mind: the 30 other teams in the NFL had absolutely zero interest in acquiring Rodgers, so the Jets were essentially bidding against themselves. This was a terrible trade for the Jets in my view - absolutely awful.

that's exactly what i feel. but hey, i might be biased considering i absolutely HATE the Jets.

Well, if the Jets were just one good QB away from a SB....

And if this works out and they get the good out of A A Ron then they may have a nice year.

But they still traded two number ones and paid a whole pile of cap moolah for a 39 year old QB who may be on his last legs.

I sincerely hope it works out like Favre to the Jets.

Yeah, for all his regular season heroics Rodgers sure does struggle in the postseason. That's why all these Jets fans thinking "Rodgers = Super Bowl" are delusional. He's been on a lot of better teams in the the last 12 years than the current Jets, with no SB appearances. He's not a savior. I think this has strong dumpster fire potential.

Hmmm I'm just not that worried.

Yes, Rodgers is talented. Yes, the Jets actually have a solid defense.

But let's not forget. Rodgers has been on the same team and comfortable in a steady offense for a very, very long time. Plus, he had the luxury of riding the bench and learning from Favre before he ever took the field.

Who's to say there will be a seamless transition to the Jets offense, with it's own uncertainty and players? Plus, the offensive line IS NOT strong for the Jets. Rodgers will be under pressure. NO QB handles a bad offensive line well. If they don't solve that, Rodgers will be operating under duress all season. Not unlikely he would get dinged up too. Things like broken fingers, ankle sprains, etc.

All in all it definitely helps because he's far better than anyone they started last season. BUT, their problems on offense go beyond the QB IMO.

I agree with Florio... I think he said it.... that by the time November rolls around, AA Ron may be tired of the jets porous OLine and the jets mouthy arsed young players and will have mentally checked out.  And start focusing on playing golf and then retire at the end of the season.

That would be perfect.  One bad year and cost the Jets another 1st rounder next year!!

Oddly enough, the Bills stole one from the Jets just 4 years ago with 4 turnovers and a -3 turnover margin--after trailing 16-0 So...karma, perhaps?
