This is a big topic this for Miami this off season.....

Kevin Nogle wrote:The Miami Dolphins are preparing for what will likely be another busy offseason. The team is expected to have around $32 million in salary cap space prior to making any changes to the current contracts they have on the books. There are players that will be released that provide back some cap space, as well as contract extensions and restructuring that give back some money for use this year by the club.

The team has plenty of work to do before the league’s free agency period begins in March. There are 20 players who will head into free agency this year if Miami does not either re-sign them or make qualifying offers for restricted/exclusive rights free agents. There are also 20 players who have their contracts ending after the 2017 season, including key players like safety Reshad Jones, wide receiver Jarvis Landry, and defensive end Cameron Wake, who could be targets for extensions between now and the start of the 2017 regular season.

Over the next several weeks, we will spend time breaking down the specific players on the Miami roster. Before we get to that, however, we need to set the current status of the roster. This morning, we do just that.

Looking at all the players that is going to be UFA or RFA, Gase and Tannebaum better have a good game plan

I believe this was exactly the intent of the team approach during last year offseason.

With this many players going into UFA and RFA, it gives the team enormous flexibility in who they retain, and who they choose to allow to hit the market.

So, massive roster turnover for the first three years of the Gase era. Let's just hope we replace the dead wood with legit players and not more dead wood...

I'm actually optimistic for the first time since JJ was hired.

I'm not optimistic yet...I need to see an A-level draft from Tannenbaum first, and I need to see what adjustments Gase and his staff are going to make to improve execution on offense, defense and special teams. About all I can say for sure after year one is that Gase is a better head coach than Philbin. But "better than Philbin" may not be good enough...the jury is still out. Better coaching and better talent - that's what we need to see moving forward. I was hoping to see some sign this season that we are closing the gap with the Patriots, but I've seen no evidence of that yet.

Either way, this is a HUGE offseason for the Phins...gotta hit some home runs.

I remember my first beer Razz

I thought JJ was a savior as well. Then after the Yatil Green pick I began having my doubts. Then he went out of his way NOT to draft Moss in '98 so he could take...John Avery instead Evil or Very Mad Before the '99 season was over I was cursing his name.

This team's been drafting horribly for a *long* time.

All it takes is for the Fins to do their usual Finsy offseason things to screw everything up and be the Jets of next season.

Every year it seems people say this is the most important offseason in franchise history and every year we get the same old thing.

BTW, how many picks are they missing from this draft again? scratch

This is our chance to close the gap to the pats. After all, brady is getting older. He's what now, 39? He's slowing down. Wink Wink

Brady's not retiring for another 20 years.
