Detroit gets Campbell No. 2

Detroit Lions head coach Dan Campbell wasn't the top coach on the team's wishlist this offseason. He might not have been the top Campbell, either.

According to a report from CBS Sports, Iowa State head coach Matt Campbell was offered an eight-year, $68.5 million contract to leave Ames and take over the Lions.

When Matt Campbell publicly announced his commitment to Iowa State on Jan. 9, Dan Campbell was interviewed the next day and hired within a week. His contract reportedly is worth around $3 million per season.

Seems like the Lions dodged a bullet with Matt Campbell turning them down...I can't figure out what they were thinking offering him that type of money. scratch

Meh. Until I see otherwise I'll always see Dan Campbell as nothing more than a macho meathead whose rah rah nut up approach is hopelessly obsolete in modern society, let alone football. Maybe it shouldn't be, but it is. At some point a head coach needs actual strategy to succeed. His first 6 quarters as a head coach in Miami were glorious. Then the team went right back to playing like crap the rest of the season except for the now cliched late season Pats win. Color me unimpressed.
