The rookie watch
Ja'Marr Chase is having a great rookie debut. 1st catch in NFL was a TD. 3 catches 80 yards in the first half. Really helping Burrow.
Zach Wilson looks terrible 6/16 int
Pitts 1 rec 1 yard
Devonta Smith 5-52 TD.
I wonder how Waddle will look compared to Chase?

He had a bad drop, but he showed his speed and toughness for sure. A good start.
Re: The rookie watch
So in other words almost all the rookies you guys listed played today the complete opposite of how they had all preseason? That's weird

Yeah, pretty much! LOL
Zach Wilson was mostly godawful, but did make a few nice throws.
Re: The rookie watch
A running back I really liked as a late sleeper, Elijiah Mitchell, had a big first game for San Francisco after Mostert went down.

Yeah, he looked great. But of course, Shanahan will stick with RB by committee.
Re: The rookie watch
The Jets overall on offense looked like crap. WR Elijah Moore who I think is gonna be really good looked awful as well.
Zach Wilson looked okay behind a bad O-line.
Jets D is good. If they had any help from the offense....
I heard an announcer say the Falcons are going thru a rebuild?
And did you see what the Cards did to the Titans?

Well it is year 1 for the new coach and GM combo here in Atlanta (I live here). But they were absolutely dog-walked by Philly, who I do not think will be that good this year. Announcers were brutal on critique of Falcons defense, which was the main reason last coach was fired. But Matt Ryan? With Calvin Ridley and the rookie TE Pitts? I expected much more. The offense was an abject failure, and that has to be troubling.
And did you see what the Cards did to the Titans?
Man did that Henry - Tannehill powered offense suddenly crash to earth! I truly wonder if it was a week 1 fluke, or the departure of their highly rated offensive coordinator. I don't think the Cards will be that good defensively, they still have Vance Joseph as DC, who is.... not that good.
If their struggles are game plan related due to the loss of their OC, yeah they are in serious trouble. Tannehill NEEDS that dominant run game to work or he's not going to carry the squad. I wouldn't hit the panic button yet but my finger would be hovering over it...

Re: The rookie watch
For around 15 years now I have known about the dreaded Curse Of 370. This is a phenomenon where almost every RB in NFL history not named Eric Dickerson has suffered a significant dropoff the season after racking up 370 carries or more. Last season Henry led the league with 378. Hope none of you guys picked him in fantasy...

But back to rookies...
A great way to track every rookie's progress week to week is to simply click on the link below and then click whatever statistical category you want to see which rookie currently has the most passing yards, rushing yards, receiving TDs, sacks, etc. in this year's class. And you can do this for any draft class too.

Re: The rookie watch
The Jets' defense sucks. Their front 7 is pretty good, but they have no pass rush and they might have the worst secondary in football.
The Titans are who I thought they were...if you can shutdown Henry, the game is over. Tannehill reverts to form as soon as he can't rely on playaction. The Cards did look fantastic, though.
The Falcons' D looks awful. And I think their offense seems better on paper than it does in reality. Calvin Ridley is a stud, but Ryan isn't what he used to be and who knows what Pitts will do as a rookie. They don't have much to excited about besides those 3 players IMO.
I think the Saints are for real - if Winston can keep avoiding turnovers. The Stafford-led Rams looked awesome...great to see a truly underrated QB finally get to play on a real team. And how bout those Texans???

Re: The rookie watch
Mac Jones had more yards than the Miami offense yesterday. 268 total vs 259 for Miami. He also had a 102 rating in his first NFL game.

And he led his team to 6 points in the second half, at home, and lost.

Re: The rookie watch
Najee Harris had a highlight reel run today where he threw a defender out of the way like he was a rag doll.
Mac Jones another solid performance and it didn't take 11 games for him to look like a starter.

Meanwhile, almost all of Grier's picks the last 2 years look like complete wastes of everyone's time. Go figure.

Jones has so far shown no ability to read a defense. It's just drop back and throw to the first option. The Pats are doing a great job of protecting him, but he hasn't been impressive at all from what I've seen.

Certainly looked like crap today.DolFan 316 wrote:Meanwhile, almost all of Grier's picks the last 2 years look like complete wastes of everyone's time. Go figure.
