Re: 2023 Draft
Hopefully Hill and Chubb put us to the next level but we ended last season with tons of #1s and cap space and we will end the season with no #1s and on the cap bubble.

Re: 2023 Draft
Thanks for posting, Kev - I was wondering about that.
A 2nd and two 3rds is enough to do some damage on a roster that is already in decent shape. Have to think CB, LB, OL and TE are the priorities.

I will also add in a top shelf running back. This offense with a stud RB would be an absolute nightmare for opposing defenses.

Re: 2023 Draft
My guess is Grier will trade away all the picks plus a couple for next year to move up into the bottom of the first for scrawny, marginally talented CB whom he could have had in the mid 2nd round.
Think Jamar Fletcher Part Deux!

Maybe - but at this point, Jeff Wilson just may be THE MAN. I would like to see a big, bruising back added for short yardage.

Did Tindall play today? Does he even still exist? I'm starting to think that pick was a myth, like the Loch Ness Monster and Bigfoot.

He played in the first half last week, for a few plays. I didn't see him this week.
Re: 2023 Draft
Gotta give some props, this team has found excellent value in UFA's in recent years with Needham, Kohou, and now Robert Jones (who I liked and was really glad to get as an UDFA in '21). We will need that to continue, the draft stock is a bit depleted for the next two years. Not complaining though.

Re: 2023 Draft
Here is my all SEC draft for the Phins.
I have been able to draft TE/WR/RB Jaheim Bell a couple of times, but the Phins picks keep dropping and Bell is rising in the draft rankings it looks like.
Traded down into the 3rd for a 4th and 5th rounder in 2024 I think...
71. Mekhi Garner CB LSU
81. Trey Dean III S Florida
92. Derick Hall EDGE Auburn
106. Warren McClendon OT Georgia
224. Bumper Pool LB Arkansas
Secondary depth at the very least. Garner will be the nickel if not the starter IMO.
Dean is experienced and makes plays.
Hall can play the run and get after the QB.
McClendon will provide depth and push the starters and may even be the starting RT.
Pool - How cool is a name like Bumper pool, but he reminds me of Zach Thomas.

Re: 2023 Draft
I hate to play the "white LB = Zach Thomas" card, but in this case I think it fits. Bumper Pool is an Energizer Bunny type that makes plays sideline to sideline and just plays football. Everyone will say he's too small, too slow, etc. but I think there's a place for him in the NFL, and in the right system, who knows? At worst, you're getting a dynamite special teams player. He's fun to watch...and how can you not love the ridiculous name!
Re: 2023 Draft
Here's my try. I want to try to restock the cupboard with picks if I can while adding key pieces.
Traded down from #60 with TN getting #90 and their 3rd rounder next year (their original offer had a 4th and getting a later pick from us).
3 (81) Anton Harrison, OT Oklahoma
3B (90) Kyu Blu Kelly, CB Stanford
3C (92) Sam LaPorta, TE, Iowa
5 (145) Kenny Logan, Jr., S, Kansas
7 (224) Kemari Averett, TE, Bethune-Cookman
So we are now only missing a 4th rounder in 2024.

Re: 2023 Draft
Nice draft, Hal.
If Shell and Jones keep looking good, do you think they will invest a 2nd rounder on the Oline again? They might solidify them as the starters and then they could have Eichenberg as a swing Guard or OT. Dump or Trade Jackson maybe. But Jackson was doing okay at RT I thought, so...?
After the way the Phins ignored some darn good Oline prospects last year, I think they will go in another direction early, but if that big OT from GA drops.... or they trade down and GA's other OT McClendon is there... who knows?
I am leaning towards TE/RB/WR Jaheim Bell but it will all depend on his speed I think whether McDaniel wants him. He ain't Deebo, but he is very versatile.
I have been looking at CB Tyrique Stevenson from Miami, but am hearing some good things about Gonzalez from Oregon. If I had my pick, I think I would go Mehki Garner from LSU. I admit to an perfectly sensible SEC Bias.
At TE, Averett is intriguing due to his size and I think he will probably rise if he tests decently in workouts, but the one I have been looking at is Zach Kuntz from Old Dominion. 6'8" 245 lbs. I suspect his size and speed will catapult him up the draft boards, but who knows? Right now he is probably a 4th or a 5th rounder.
One guy that might be available at #60 is GA TE Darnell Washington. He's a blocking TE but has size and great hands. Not as great as George Kittle-like Brock Bowers TE from GA, but... That dude will be in the 1st round for sure. Washington MAY slide if there is a big jump by other players below him. Right now, in the mocks, he is gone by #60 every time it seems like.
So yeah, I am hoping the Phins draft Bumper Pool and Zach Kuntz!

NO!!! Cut both of those bumblers, busts and bums!!! Grier should never EVER draft an O-lineman again!!! Just bring in undrafted rookies and FAs from now on!!! I am officially adamant about this!!!

If I was in charge, here are some moves I'd make:
- --I'd give Shell a 3-year deal and keep him as the starting RT.
--I'd keep Jones as the starting LG.
--AJax becomes my primary swing tackle.
--Eich gets traded.
--Draft a tackle (maybe 3rd round or so) to develop that can eventually replace Armstead
--Re-sign Michael Deiter to a one-year deal as a top interior reserve
--Sign a mid-tier veteran lineman in free agency to compete with AJax and Deiter

Re: 2023 Draft
That was my thought process behind OT being picked first, we will need to start developing Armstead's eventual replacement and it is a good year to find an OT in the middle rounds.
CB seems a big need with all the injuries, maybe DB in general. And Gesicki is likely to get a ridiculous offer somewhere that we won't be able to match.

Excellent points by JMP and Hal.
Getting a developmental OT with solid skills makes sense.
