Miami Dolphins re-sign safety Michael Thomas
Alex Butler wrote:April 17 (UPI) -- Restricted free agent safety Michael Thomas earned interest from several teams this offseason, but he is headed back to the Miami Dolphins.
The fifth-year defender agreed to a one-year, $1.7 million tender Monday. Thomas was a captain last season and signed the original round tender before taking part in the Dolphins' opening session of OTAs.
In 2016, Thomas played free safety, nickel cornerback and special teams. The 26-year-old had 58 tackles, two forced fumbles and a sack in eight games. His 19 special teams tackles tied for second-most in the NFL.

Sounds like Thomas trying to prove that he is worth it.

I think Thomas has some good ball in the air instincts, but he did look like he was out of position a lot last year. Of course, nearly ALL the DBs were out of position it seemed, so....

Thomas is a decent special teams player and a borderline-terrible DB. I'm not a fan. I think we could easily sign an undrafted rookie to do what he does, with higher upside and at a fraction of the cost.

Wasn't he captain of special teams? You won't find an undrafted rookie free agent that exhibits that kind of leadership. I think he was beyond decent. For 1.8 mil I'll take it.

That time he picked off Brady in the end zone to win the game when he clearly wasn't supposed to on any level makes Thomas worth being a Fin for the rest of his career as far as I'm concerned
