Browns fire Jackson and Haley
The Cleveland Browns have fired coach Hue Jackson and offensive coordinator Todd Haley after a three-game losing streak derailed a promising start to the season.

The Browns have a lot of talent on the roster, and a strong front office. That will be an attractive job for coaching candidates, and if they land the right guy they can be successful right away. The key will be developing Mayfield, of course.

The Phins revamped the coaching staff on both offense and defense this offseason - Gase is running out of scapegoats, although he continues to blame the players based on his recent comments about the defense.

Oh NOW they fire him???
Only the Browns would fire a coach with 2 wins in half a season after coming in at 1-31
I mean yeah, he should've been fired but why NOW???
Also, I love that the Browns are now sucking again after everyone acted like they would make the playoffs this season for some absurdly insane reason.

My favorite joke I've stolen from elsewhere: of course a team with orange helmets that calls itself the Browns doesn't care about Hue. (Rim shot.)
I'll show myself out now.

Never show yourself out for a joke. Make everyone else leave for not having a sense of humor.

It's a Browns thing...we're not meant to understand.
http://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/25118191/browns-fire-coach-hue-jackson-two-plus-seasonsThe previous five Browns head coaches -- Romeo Crennel, Eric Mangini, Pat Shurmur, Rob Chudzinski and Mike Pettine -- were all fired after the second Steelers game of that season.

I really think that Dorsey is going to right that ship. He's built a pretty nice roster already, with good pieces and parts in place. He has some elite talent to work with also.
The thing is, it looks to me like he gave Jackson (and staff) 8 games to prove they deserved to stick. He did not give them any "pass" on moral victories and close games. Your record, as Parcells famously said, is what you are. Once the results were in, and he witnessed the dysfunction between Haley/Jackson, he wasted no time and fired them both. This sends a clear message that Dorsey will not tolerate poor performance, and especially won't tolerate dissension in the coaching ranks.
Now, the Browns have an interim head coach and they can talk to whoever they want about the opportunity. They get first crack at college coaches looking to make the jump to NFL. I'm not high on Williams, but at least he has head coaching experience, so they aren't totally lost while conducting their search for the next one.
Count me as an observer that considered the Browns poised for a playoff run. Their roster is better than the results to this point in the season. It makes total sense that Jackson was fired, and Haley for that matter. The writing was on the wall for Jackson anyways. He got 8 more games to prove he should keep the job, and he failed. Simple as that.

Great post, white. I think you're right on with all that.
Damn, I wish we had a guy like Dorsey running the show.
Williams has done a helluva job with that defense - they lead the league in turnovers with 22. He's a headcase, but he is a great defensive coach.

I really, really wanted Dorsey here the minute he left K.C. Dammit. He will have Cleveland in the playoffs with the right coach by next year.
