Mark Walton suspended 4 games

The Miami Dolphins’ enjoyment of a 26-18 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday afternoon will be short-lived. The team has received word from the NFL’s league offices that starting running back Mark Walton has been suspended 4 games by the NFL in response to Walton’s well-established off the field issues this past offseason. Walton was arrested three times this winter as a member of the Cincinnati Bengals — which ultimately led to his release and subsequent signing with the Dolphins. Walton’s legal issues are resolved, but now he must serve time off the field in order to fully put his past transgressions behind him.

Walton has, to this point, been a model citizen in Miami. And the Dolphins reportedly knew of the upcoming suspension before they decided to trade RB Kenyan Drake to the Arizona Cardinals ahead of last week’s NFL trade deadline. It’s a tough blow for Walton, who appeared to be gaining momentum as Miami’s starter in the backfield. But once his suspension is served, Walton can fully put his missteps behind him and progress as a member of the Dolphins.
