Free Agents added this offseason
So I created this at the moment because Miami has already picked up some players even before the offseason so here we go. I will try to keep this up to date but add your insight as well.

The Dolphins, who need to address their backfield this offseason, worked out former Ravens RB Alex Collins, who led them in rushing in 2017 with 973 yards.
They also worked out CFL QB Chris Streveler, who led Winnipeg to the Grey Cup this year. A potential developmental arm.

Good idea for a thread!
Alex Collins is OK...nothing special. He fumbles more than I'd like and I think he had an off-field incident, but he was pretty solid in 2017. Worth a look, I guess.
I don't know Chris Streveler, but looking at his stats he seems like a poor passer and a great runner. Over the past two seasons he totaled 19 passing TDs and 19 INTs...and 22 rushing TDs!!

Re: Free Agents added this offseason
Im not particularly fond of free agent running backs. There are special backs out there that I just think are even more special if the offensive line is at least half way decent. With that being said, the premium on running backs in the draft have by far declined in recent years. I'd much rather poach a running back in the later rounds.
My gut tells me that unless we fix what is really broken, there's nothing a running back can do.

Re: Free Agents added this offseason
My preference with RBs is to sign a vet to a 1-year prove-it deal to be a mentor, and then draft a rookie to (hopefully) be the starter. I'm looking at someone like a Jordan Howard or Matt Breida (or ideally David Johnson if he gets cut...) in free agency, and then drafting a young stud like Dobbins. Seems like there are a TON of quality backs in this draft.
Either way, the running game has to be a priority.

Re: Free Agents added this offseason
I think there are too many priorities. Miami has to see what position need the most help and then fill in the hole of the lease important.

Re: Free Agents added this offseason
I agree there are many priorities on this team that lacks a lot of talent. The only thing that matters is that Miami is at the top or very near the top (i say top 3) in sacks per year. Miami as at the bottom or near the bottom in rushing yards per game. the commonalities in that production is and always has been the crude OL that the "regime'S" have put together.
Tannehill is a great example of what can happen to a decent quarterback with a strong running game!
Trust me I am all in on the Dolphins getting Studs. But the fundamental thing that has been attributed to a lack luster offense for years has been the OL.
I will pound this on this site until I am blue in the face. To me nothing else matters. We screwed this team up for years by not addressing this full steam. I N S A N I T Y - definition please............

There are a lot of priorities, but really it shouldn't be that difficult to get major upgrades at the biggest areas of need: running game on offense and pass rush on defense. You add 2-3 OL and a stud RB on offense, and a couple of pass rushers on defense...and it will make a HUGE difference. I'm not saying we need All Pro superstars at all those spots, but even average/solid players would be upgrades. We have the money and picks to do all that and more...and STILL get the QB of the future. It's a huge offseason...can't screw it up.

The 25-year-old Louis, a former Auburn standout who Cleveland selected in the fourth round of the 2016 draft, spent three seasons with the Browns. He started 12 of the 32 games he played during his first two seasons, catching 45 passes for 562 yards.
The 6-foot-2, 215-pound Louis brings added value as a return specialist. During his rookie season with the Browns, he returned nine kickoffs for 164 yards, averaging 18.2 yards per return.

Re: Free Agents added this offseason
Louis is a long shot to stick. Albert Wilson came on late in the season I think the Fins will restructure his contract / extend it and get him some guaranteed money.
With Parker, Williams, Grant, Wilson and Hurns that's a crowded receiver room and several of them secured with contracts of 3 years or longer.
It's good we added him in case we get hit with injuries at the position, and he manages to stay healthy. There's other depth guys on the roster I didn't list, also. This is one area we are deep. A draft pick at WR would represent a supreme luxury IMO.

Re: Free Agents added this offseason
With Louis and Gary Jennings, we have a couple of nice prospects to develop behind the other receivers. It's a deep group. I'd still like to draft a receiver just because this draft looks fantastic at the position, and guys like Grant, Wilson and Hurns are replaceable, but it's not a necessity. At least we have one position that's in good shape!
And don't sleep on Isaiah Ford...he really came on late in the season and made some clutch catches.

This group needs more size though. If the dude from Liberty is available in the 4th or so I'd definitely take him. Oh wait, I actually did in one of my pretend drafts

For this draft give me Tua and trenches, trenches plus more trenches.
We are still too soft up front. We have to be more physical, run the ball, stop the run and pressure the QB.
If we are to take Grier at his word, he will prioritize the O-line and defense front 7 to build a physical squad. If we see more skill position and secondary players drafted instead, nothing has changed.

Wilson and Grant are the only short receivers on the current roster. All other notable receivers are over 6 feet:
Preston Williams 6'5"
DeVante Parker 6'3"
Allen Hurns 6'3"
Isaiah Ford 6'2"
Mack Hollins 6'4"
Ricardo Louis 6'2"
Gary Jennings 6'1"
But yes, I wouldn't mind drafting another big, fast receiver!

We are definitely soft and need to be more physical - that's been a huge issue forever and MUST be a priority. But we do also need playmakers, and we need a lot of DBs in this defensive scheme. Fortunately, we have enough picks and cap space to address most if not all areas.

Saw an article that Flores like the setup when it comes to WR. I don't see Miami picking up one unless for returning kicks

It's a little questionable because you have Williams coming off the ACL and Parker has only had one good season. But Wilson seemed to come on strong once he got healthy, Hurns is a smart veteran and Ford really looked great at the end of the season. Grant is what he is...part-time player that you can use for a gadget play every now and then, and he's the returner. Add in developmental receivers Jennings and Louis and I do think we're set. It's a strong group. If you think about Williams and Parker starting outside with Wilson in the slot, and then Hurns and Ford coming off the bench, that's really very good.
I do think we can bring in competition for Grant. Since this draft is so strong at receiver, there will probably come a point where the best player available on Miami's board is a WR. So it wouldn't surprise me at all if they draft a receiver after round 3 - but it's nice to know that it's not a "must have" position.

Phins signed former Lions' TE Michael Roberts. Big boy at 6'5", 265. He'll be 26 years old in May. Used mostly as a blocker, but does have 3 career TDs on just 13 catches. Sounds like a solid signing - good competition for depth, and IMO could give Durham Smythe a run for his money.
Re: Free Agents added this offseason
Miami definitely needs a TE that can block and catch at the same time.

Good signing at TE. The Patriots had a deal with him last year, the injury killed the deal. They know something about TEs...

“The Dolphins hold Patriots free agent Joe Thuney in high regard and are expected to be among a number of teams to call when negotiations begin in less than two weeks,” Jackson wrote on Tuesday.
With plenty of teams interested in the 27-year-old left guard’s services, he will likely ink the largest contract among guards, which could pay out roughly $15 million per year.

Thuney is still my first choice...that would be a HUGE addition.
Re: Free Agents added this offseason
A skill player is worthless without a good offensive line. That said, an average running back can be great behind a good offensive line, and a good QB can be a world beater.
A good defensive line makes DBs look great.
