Training Camp
I don't have time to post much, but today was the first practice in pads and apparently the atmosphere was electric. Tons of fans turned out, and Tua/Hill/Waddle gave them a show. I saw a gorgeous 65-yard bomb from Tua to Hill in an 11-on-11 drill, and the crowd went bonkers.
I'm telling you now, we are not going to recognize this Dolphins team this season. It is going to be unlike anything we've ever seen. I can't wait!!!!!
IN MCDANIEL WE TRUST!!!!

Oh yeah, feel free to post any camp-related updates/news here. I'll do the same when I can.

But the biggest, most important, burning question everybody wants to know is...how far did that 65-yard pass actually travel in the air?
Seriously, is the media going to pretend that play didn't happen because it doesn't fit their predetermined narrative like they do with literally everything else these days? Are they going to actually say that anybody who says they saw it is spreading "misinformation"? And how sad is it that this is the first thing I thought of because I now expect the media to act this way 24/7?
EDIT: And it appears the media is busting out the old tried and true distraction attempt. We're now supposed to ignore the long Tua pass and worry about Gesicki not being a Dolphin after this season. I knew they'd try *something* to hide the truth!

Ridiculous. But all this bullshit will just make it sweeter when Tua makes all these mediots and haters look foolish.

Re: Training Camp
and speaking of Gesicki, i found this comment about last year's offense, well, "interesting"...
https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/spt-columns-blogs/barry-jackson/article262837713.html
a bunch of different guys calling plays...sounds like all sides of the ball on this team was a disaster. glad that is in the rearview mirror now.
“It’s my fifth year, fifth different offensive coordinator, could be six if you count last year’s interesting situation. You have a bunch of different guys calling plays. This is my third head coach. It’s been a whole bunch of stuff.”

I can't find the quote right now, but there was also a comment from Chase Edmonds recently where he said he talked with players about last season and they all told him it was a disaster. I don't think we'll ever know just how bad it was, but these little bits that are trickling out really paint an ugly picture. I guess that's what happens when the head coach stops communicating with his coaching staff.
Another thing that Tua talked about on NFLN is how the players are all hanging out together this offseason, off the field. McDaniel is encouraging everyone to build camaraderie and become friends - not just teammates. Tua said there was nothing like that at all in his first two years in Miami.
What I'm seeing is an actual TEAM being built. There is no doubt in my mind that something special is being built here.
Re: Training Camp
Apparently undrafted rookie FA WR Braylon Sanders (Ole Miss) has made a few jaw-dropping catches the first few days of camp. Someone to keep an eye on...most likely a practice squad candidate, but it will be interesting to see if he can make some plays in preseason.

Not hearing anything whatsoever about Ezukanma. This irks and disturbs me considering who they drafted him over. Also, I have been hearing stuff about Romeo Doubs. You know, the WR the Packers drafted 7 picks later.

I heard that Ezukanma made a couple of plays in OTAs. Haven't heard anything about him in camp though
But I have heard about a couple of dropped passes in OTAs and at camp from TE Hunter Long. IMO he has to be considered "on the bubble". You really don't want to be #4 (at best) on the TE depth chart.

I just got back from camping. That bomb by Tua looked great. What I've wanted to see since he was drafted

Yet another Grier pick that was baffling, befuddling and bewildering to me. The really sad part is, Grier CLEARLY intended for Long to replace Gesicki all along! Which shows why he needed to be fired along with Flores!

It's a theory that still has merit. Grier "misses" with his picks just too often to build a squad.
If the o-line fails to perform this season, yet again, the arrow HAS to swing from "coaching" to "talent acquisition". That's on Grier.
If the McDaniel regime is not successful, once again, can you continue to fire head coaches and keep the same GM? How many chances are enough?
IMO this regime IS the last chance for Grier. Succeed, or he is next on the chopping block.

Tua Tagovailoa threw a deep touchdown to Erik Ezukanma. He also hit Tyreek Hill with plenty of room for TD run after catch and another big gain to Jaylen Waddle.

Re: Training Camp
Seems like every day I am hearing great things about CB Trill Williams and DL Zach Sieler.
If Williams keeps it up, he'll be taking Iggy's roster spot IMO.

@Safid_Deen
#Dolphins practice Day 5:
QB Tua Tagovailoa with several TDs in red zone work, perhaps none more important than the one he threw to Mike Gesicki.
Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Chase Edmonds, Cethan Carter and Mo Sanu among TD scorers Monday.

Myles Gaskin had some nice runs today, and had this to say:

@schadjoe
Dolphins RB Myles Gaskin says he feels like of offense is really coming together. “I’ve never been on an offense that moves like this.”

I said last year that Williams was better than Iggy. You can look it up. Yet more evidence that pretty much all of us could be a better GM than Grier.

I've heard the offense is shying away from Verone McKinley when he's on the field. Possible un drafted steal!

I think it is pretty clear now that Grier follows the head coach's orders when it comes to acquiring and drafting players. He picked the players Flores wanted, and now he's picking the players McDaniel wants. That is not to say that Grier is guilt-free if a pick fails, and I'm sure he has lots of input, but I think this team is run as a collaborative effort, and has been since Tannenbaum left the building.
Grier has been excellent wheeling and dealing with trades, and he's been masterful managing the cap after Tannenbaum left the team in absolute cap hell. I'm not at all concerned with Grier at this point, because I think he hired the right guy in McDaniel. I also think that Grier/Flores/McDaniel have built the best roster the Dolphins have had in decades. When the smoke clears after this season, I believe Grier will walk away with the GM of the Year award, and I think he and McDaniel are going to be in Miami for a long, long time.

I said as soon as it happened that Flores intimidated Grier into making the Iggy pick. I saw it happen live. Also, you absolutely CANNOT botch 2 of 3 first round picks like Grier did in 2020. And it might be 3 of 3 if Tua doesn't improve. He's grown on me as you know but the jury's still very much out right now.

EXCELLENT?!?! Grier is like the guy in the casino who wins 25 grand right away, but instead of quitting while he's ahead he keeps going until he's 25 grand in the hole. He just can't help himself. Even when he does make a good trade he just keeps on trading until he's gotten fleeced. Case in point: he trades down from 3 to 12 in the '21 draft but then trades back up to 6 when he could've just traded from 3 to 6 to start with. SMH. Also, giving away a 3rd in this year's draft for Eichenberg

Re: Training Camp
I can't stand Grier. His overall record of his picks is abysmal. He's had so much longevity that some of the picks and trades might start working out. I think it's mostly luck like throwing a dart at the dart board. Have enough darts and eventually you hit a good target. He also had a hand in getting the head coaches over the last 10 years.

It's really not. I know that's the narrative, but if you look at the drafts that he ran - which didn't happen till after Tannenbaum left - you'll see that the strong core of this team has been built with Grier's draft picks. And he has filled in the gaps nicely with trades and FA.

Yep, excellent. In the '21 draft, by making the two trades, we acquired an extra first round pick in 2023 and still got Waddle, the player we targeted all along. That's a massive WIN. As was trading 5 picks for Tyreek Hill, and somehow STILL having two first round picks in 2023.
Look, I get it - hating on Grier has been the thing to do for years. But the fact is, since Grier took over (after Tannebaum left) this team has been trending in the right direction and is now on the cusp of being championship-caliber. Did you know that over the past two seasons, only 7 teams have more wins than the Dolphins? I saw that note on NFLN last week. That is a testament to the roster that Grier (and Flores) built. It hasn't translated to postseason appearances/wins just yet, but that will change this season.

Kinda sounds like another UDFA gem. Im hoping he doesn't have the same trajectory as Preston Williams
