Phins fire OL coach Matt Applebaum
According to our old pal Armando Salguero:

Wow, I did not know about Frank Smith having to assist with the OL. That's certainly not a good look for Applebaum or his assistant, Lemuel Jeanpierre.
McDaniel does not waste any time...if he sees something he doesn't like he is not afraid to make a move.
I'm all or improving the OL by any means necessary. Curious to see who McDaniel is able to get.
I don't know much about this guy Dan Roushar that was mentioned in the article, but this bio seems encouraging:

Miami Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel is looking for a new offensive line coach after relieving Matt Applebaum of those duties after one season, a source told OutKick.
Interviews for the newly open position are already underway and one candidate who has already interviewed is Dan Roushar of the New Orleans Saints, another source said.
The Dolphins went through half-a-dozen tackles in 2022 and offensive coordinator Frank Smith was pulled into needing to help coach the line. McDaniel wants to hire someone who can do the job himself so that Smith can concentrate on his coordinator duties.

Not a Good Look when the OC has to Help with the OL that has Two Coaches already. Think Sanders might have Saved His Job since his Kicking was so Good toward the End of the Season.

I didn't realize Mike Munchak is available. I wanted him for OL coach last season. Would be great to see him reunite with Fangio in Miami!

I think Crossman is next. I can't see him staying after his unit's horrible performance this season.

Munchak is a beast. Just what you need for the Phins Oline.
Maybe Mcd agrees with JMP, that the fixing the D is the priority, and behind that is fixing the Oline?
Certainly seems to be the way the hiring and firing of coaching is going.

What I love about McDaniel:
There was improvement on the OL this season, even with the constant injuries, but overall it just wasn't good enough. Instead of saying, "Well, the OL was OK and we had some guys injured, so let's just keep things as they are and hope for better results next season," McD looked at it and said "This isn't good enough - we need to do better". And, he did something about it. Time will tell if he made the right decision, but I love that he isn't accepting mediocrity.
(But again...special teams needs to be next!)

With the Colts looking for a new HC, I wonder if their OL coach Chris Strausser is available? I have no idea if he's familiar with McDaniel's system, but he's been with the Colts since 2019 years and they can run the hell out of the ball and protect the QB. He was with Denver for a couple years before that, and previously spent over 20 years as a college coach.
Can you tell I'm hoping for an older, experienced OL coach???
