It's official: Vance Joseph is the new Broncos head coach

It's a four-year contract, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. Signs have been pointing to Joseph as the Broncos' top choice for about a week now, and with Joseph's Dolphins getting eliminated from the playoffs this past Sunday, it opened the door for the Broncos to move in and make the hire. Joseph was also drawing interest from the Chargers and 49ers, but cancelled those interviews Wednesday. By most accounts, Joseph is a rising star in the coaching world, having just wrapped up his first season as a defensive coordinator after coaching DBs since 2002. It's a homecoming of sorts after Joseph played his college ball at Colorado. The 44-year-old isn't expected to retain DC Wade Phillips and is reportedly looking at Mike McCoy and Bill Musgrave as his OC.

In other news, the Bills named Sean McDermott as their new head coach. I think it's a good hire, provided he can land a strong OC.

I'm not all that scared of McDermott. Good hire, but I was more worried when they got Rex Ryan, given his early success in NY.
Plus, they have front office power structure issues to resolve. Until they get past those issues, there is going to be a ceiling on how far they can go.

Front office issues aside, that Bills team has a TON of talent on both sides of the ball. A good coaching staff could turn them into a winner immediately, even with the front office drama. If they can somehow land a decent QB and a strong OC, that's a team that could easily win double-digit games IMHO.

regarding Joseph...

umm, where were these great adjustments and schemes against Pittsburgh and New England? or perhaps while he was leading his defense to the statistical bottom portion of the league? Or maybe while making this the historically worst Phins defense ever? i won't argue that maybe he was a fine coach when it came to relating to his players. and maybe his honesty in public regarding the sub-par performance of some of his players was a different approach, but i'm not sure i saw great schemes and adjustments. or are we just gonna blame it all on injuries?
Defensive tackle Earl Mitchell said he has never worked with a defensive coordinator who was better at making in-game adjustments.
Safety Michael Thomas said on Monday that if Joseph left for a head coaching job, the team hiring him would get “a real one, somebody who will prepare guys well, have great schemes.”

and on a related note...

somebody might want to remind Gase that he is the HEAD coach and not just the coach of the offense.
Coach Adam Gase, asked Wednesday why Joseph was ready to become a head coach, said: “Well, he's done a great job with our players. I can speak to that first-hand. He took so much off my plate where I never had to worry about anything with the defense. He really did a great job with all of those guys in the room. He did a great job directing those guys. And he made my life a lot easier than probably what it could have been.
“There was a big trust factor there with me. Once he was hired, I knew that side of the ball was good to go. I was able to focus on what I was able to do...

I don't think I've ever seen a defensive coordinator that was worse at in-game adjustments. Seems like we never made any in the blowouts against the good teams we faced. The Steelers ran the ball, what, 10 consecutive times on that one scoring drive last week? And I think every single one of those runs gained positive yardage.
Where were the defensive adjustments on that drive???
It's also funny that the two players quoted here both sucked this season, especially Thomas.

Gus Bradley!!! I'd sign him in a heartbeat. The Redskins are reportedly all over him, so it's probably too late.
Ultimately, I don't think it matters because Gase is going to promote Burke so we can keep this awesome defense intact.
Re: It's official: Vance Joseph is the new Broncos head coach
I'd also consider Mike Vrabel, currently LB coach for the Texans. But I'm sure he'd prefer a 3-4, that rules him out.
Re: It's official: Vance Joseph is the new Broncos head coach
was this ever brought to light when Joseph was hired to be the Phins' D coordinator?

This past weekend, the Boulder Daily Camera published details from a 2004 police report that showed Joseph was accused in 2004 of sexually assaulting two female trainers when he was a defensive backs coach at the University of Colorado.
Those allegations were reviewed and investigated by a state task force that, at the time, examined a recruiting scandal at the school. Though the school put Joseph on "administrative leave'' at the time, he was neither charged nor interviewed as part of the investigation.

Re: It's official: Vance Joseph is the new Broncos head coach
I never heard of that either. For the fact that the NFL is having an issue with players sexually assaulting women, I surprised that this was not uncovered.
One of the biggest issue for a lot of NFL and College players is that they are so use to being the big man on campus in high school and girls were flocking to them but the more they move up or grow up, however you want to say it, they are not use to working for the sex so they get them drunk and all that other crap to get what they want instead of just finding someone that is really willing or want to be with them.
