Trade deadline is tomorrow Empty Trade deadline is tomorrow

I don't expect the Phins to do anything major, but you never know with Grier. There is talk that the Browns are looking for a pass rusher, and may or may not have inquired about Ogbah.

Some non-Phins news:

The Bills are reportedly signing free agent RB Leonard Fournette.

The Giants are trading DT Leonard Williams to the Seahawks for a 2024 2nd and a 2025 5th. The Giants will also eat some of the contract. (BTW - the Seahawks are currently the #2 team in the NFC!)

The Titans aren't actively looking to trade Derrick Henry, but will listen to offers.

Use this thread for any other news and rumors...

I would love it if the Phins could trade Ogbah and his cap hit. But probably ain't happening.

I just do not see too many practical, reachable trades out there for the Phins.

Unless Grier is making a big deal like the Chubb trade... someone who needs a new contract and their current team wants to get something now rather than nothing when free agency hits. Who that is....?

I could maybe see the Phins looking at a #3 TE or backup LB, but beyond that I just don't see anything significant happening.

But yeah...knowing Grier, he could very well be working on a big mystery deal for someone that isn't on anyone's trade radar...

Last week, Miami released cornerback Parry Nickerson to make room for Jalen Ramsey, who was returning from injured reserve.

Now, on Monday, the Dolphins have re-signed Nickerson to their practice squad after he went unclaimed on waivers.

Nickerson had been playing a significant depth role for Miami before he was released, playing 24% of their defensive snaps.

To make room for him on the practice squad, the Dolphins have released Mark Milton, who joined the team earlier this month but hadn’t received any elevations since arriving in South Florida.

https://sports.yahoo.com/dolphins-swap-practice-squad-cbs-201904080.html

i thought Ramsey took a spot vacated by someone on IR - i didn't realize Nickerson had been waived. no matter, he's back now.

and regarding the trade deadline...

Nose tackle Raekwon Davis logged just 20 of the 49 defensive snaps. At 325 pounds, he’s the only behemoth natural nose tackle who’s playing much. Da’Shawn Hand, the only backup defensive lineman getting any snaps, is 297 pounds. Hand, for the first time, didn’t get any defensive snaps Sunday.

Agent Drew Rosenhaus, who does not represent Davis, said on his WSVN Fox 7 segment, that he wouldn’t be surprised if the Dolphins acquire a natural nose tackle before Tuesday’s NFL trade deadline.

https://www.miamiherald.com/sports/nfl/miami-dolphins/article281190923.html

not sure if Rosenhaus is in the know or if he has an agenda by putting this out there. i'd be a little surprised if they made this move now. i think they wait until the draft to get DL help.

Yup, it totally makes sense that Grier would actually trade for a "natural nose tackle" at the last minute considering how horrible the Fins' run has been and...oh wait, after the opener when everybody was panicking they haven't allowed more than 108 yards since, and under 100 five times.

https://stathead.com/tiny/u1zxT

But yeah, they sure do need another DT as opposed to, say, an O-lineman. Will there even be five guys healthy enough to play there Sunday? scratch

I believe Rosenhaus does represent Wilkins and whaddaya know, it's like he's finally realized he's in a contract year and needs more sacks to get more money. All of a sudden less than halfway through the season, Wilkins has tied his season high in that category Shocked

BTW the media as usual is determined to cling to a predetermined narrative and insist it's true no matter how stupid they look or how untrue it continues to be. Yup, they're still insisting Grier is definitely going to trade for a RB. No really, they mean it this time! Rolling Eyes

With Armstead, Williams and Hunt possibly returning this weekend, OL is not a huge need. If there's a starting LG on the trade block, sure, it's worth a look - but that's like finding a needle in a haystack. No team with a good LG is in a hurry to trade him.

And of course, DT is much easier to find than OL. And we do need a true NT in this defense - absolutely. There are still some decent DTs available in free agency, so if Davis is moved we could pick up Michael Brockers, Linval Joseph,Akiem Hicks, Justin Ellis...someone like that.

I still don't like it for the same reason I didn't like the Claypool trade. It's just not a move that would help this team win any games they otherwise wouldn't have won anyway. Is getting another DT really what's going to put the Fins over the top when they face the Jets, Cowboys, Ravens and Bills? Nope. So why do it?

Actually, it could be a big help against teams like the Ravens and Jets. Plus, if we can somehow find a DT that can actually collapse the pocket, that takes pressure of of Wilkins and Sieler and makes them even better. I'd also add that the current DT depth is a concern.

In the end, I doubt the Phins make any trades - but DT certainly makes some sense.

just pointing out that seems to be the general consensus.

Saleh said the team is hoping to find some reinforcements up front ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline, but that "no one is trading offensive linemen" because of how scarce they are around the league.

https://sports.yahoo.com/robert-saleh-wed-reinforcements-ol-194718184.html

Jones said the Cowboys could use to help on the offensive line for depth purposes. But that is also a problem across the league.

“If you really looked at our team right now, the biggest need is depth in the offensive line,” Jones said before adding. “Everybody in the league is looking for starting offensive linemen. Everybody.”

https://www.yahoo.com/news/jerry-jones-not-interested-adding-222704751.html

the only O-linemen i've seen mentioned as possibly being available is Denver's Garett Bolles and given the dearth of O-linemen available, the Broncos are gonna want far more than he's worth. and he doesn't play OG and i don't think he is any better than what the Phins already have (injured or otherwise).

Bears got Montez Sweat from the Commanders for a 2024 second-round draft pick.

Teams are interested in Bears CB Jaylon Johnson - including the 49ers and Bills.

I think the argument can be made that, in 2023, finding quality OL is just as difficult (or at least close) as finding quality QBs. Seriously.

Starting guards do get traded: the Jags acquired Ezra Cleveland from the Vikes for a 6th rounder.

The 49ers got Chase Young from the Commanders for a 3rd round pick.

The Jets sure do love to add old, washed-up offensive linemen. They just signed 35 year old Rodger Saffold.

All I'm getting out of this is that with Sweat and Young both gone, there's no excuse for this team losing to the Commanders now. As an aside, if a team decides to trade away their top two pass rushers mid-season after publicly declaring they'd wait for the result of their game right before the deadline to decide if they want to trade anybody, they are CLEARLY tanking and need to be investigated for it. But we all know that'll never happen since nobody's making any accusations of racism. Rolling Eyes (Speaking of tanking, the Cards are doing the best job of it I've seen since the '11 Colts, just putting on an absolute masterclass.)

It goes back to what I've already said many times about males being born with less testosterone in them than their dads for at least the last 80 years. The evidence is everywhere now and it's overwhelming. Males under 30 now act more like women than women do.

Even the Madden game has noticed and incorporated this, with any drafted O-linemen being far harder to develop than any other position. If you're running a franchise you're actually better off signing and trading for as many good O-linemen in the league right now than trying to draft players there.

Gotta give the Vikes credit, Dobbs for essentially nothing is about the best deal they could have made under the circumstances.

Hell, that is the same deal Miami made for Claypool, him and a 7th for a 6th!

I hate that the Commanders are going to be so depleted with the Pats up next for them. Really wanted to see Belicheck go about 4-13, but it is looking more like he'll get to 5 or 6 wins now. Dammit.

There are no easy wins in the NFL - but the Dolphins better SMASH the Commanders.

The crazy thing is that the Commanders aren't that far out of the NFC playoff race - at all. They have been playing like crap, but they're still in it - or, they were. Yep, it is clear that that are in "lose now" mode with these two trades.

As for the Cards, that team has NOTHING - but hey, Kyler Murray is coming back! cheers
