Phins compensatory skunked

Before the NFL made its annual announcement of compensatory picks for the 2023 NFL draft, the San Francisco 49ers were slated to have just four selections.

After the league unveiled those 37 additional choices Thursday, the Niners now have a whopping 11. San Francisco's seven compensatory selections include three extra third-round picks (Nos. 99, 101 and 102) as part of the league's initiative for organizations developing minority candidates who become head coaches or general managers with other teams.

Those picks came following the departures of head coaches Robert Saleh (New York Jets), Mike McDaniel (Miami Dolphins) and DeMeco Ryans (Houston Texans), as well as general managers Martin Mayhew (Washington Commanders) and Ran Carthon (Tennessee Titans) in recent years.

I also don't understand why a team gets a comp pick for losing a minority coach, while teams that hire minority coaches get absolutely nothing.

So the team with a white general manager and a white head coach is being awarded multiple 3rd round choices as a result of a program designed to get minority candidates into those two roles.
That makes a lot of sense.
Obviously San Francisco is playing chess while the nfl is playing checkers.

The most equitable way to hand out compensatory picks is none at all for any team.

If they draft 7 quarterbacks, maybe, just maybe, one of them will be able to finish the season.

NFL Coach Brian Flores can press discrimination claims against the league and three teams after a federal judge on Wednesday rejected the option of arbitration...

The judge said Flores can let a jury decide the merits of his discrimination claims against the league, the Denver Broncos, the New York Giants and the Houston Texans, but he must pursue his claims against the Miami Dolphins through arbitration.
