LB Alex Anzalone is staying with the Lions.

The Falcons signed S Jessie Bates - 4 years, $64.02 million. Wow.

Unconfirmed rumors that the Phins are looking at Eagles RB Miles Sanders. He's very inconsistent IMO, but when he's "on" he's great.

David Long is an outstanding move. Crazy cheap deal for a really good player.

And it seems like the Mike White deal is 2 years for $8 million, which is nothing for a backup QB. There are incentives that could make the money double.

The Phins re-signed LB Duke Riley. Good move. He's a solid depth player and good on STs. I thought he played well this season.

I was hoping the Phins would look at Edmunds, but not for that much money.

I did read where the contract's guaranteed money is all on the first two years, so...

The Bears have so much cap space they can take on $50 mill in the first two years!!!

On David Long... I cannot believe the Titans let this guy walk?

As Fox Sports Free Agent rankings said "Long is about as crucial to the Titans defense as anyone. He racked up 86 tackles in 12 games and showed a lot of versatility, so if Tennessee doesn't see his value, someone else will."

I think we can see Fangio's eye for a LB in this signing.

And in the Riley re-signing. I keep reading Riley was the best coverage LB for the Phins.

So far this off season, I have not been ashamed of the moves the Phins are making.

This is unexpected. I keep waiting for the "other shoe" to drop!

"Grier gots to Grier" as the saying goes.

Lets hope McD and Fangio have removed Grier's penchant for pulling a "Grier".

Long is supposedly excellent against both the run and pass, and is also a good pass rusher. If he stays healthy, he's a massive addition!

I've done my share of Grier bashing, that's for certain.

One thing that often gets overlooked: His reputation is to ultimately serve the needs and wants of his head coach. To a fault. We can debate if that's the right approach for a GM, but it's not a bad one. The team will live or die based on the talent of the coaching staff and QB. It makes little sense to draft a player, or sign a free agent, if the coaching staff doesn't believe they will fit their system.

Grier has been saddled with some bad coaching staffs. From the Flores era of changing new systems every season because he was very difficult to work with, to Gase and his "I can get a guard at Publix" approach. Yeah, his Publix o-line was on display plain as day every week as witnessed by every Dolfan in the world.

We are one year in, but McDaniel's fingerprints are all over the offense. From the trade for Hill, signing Armstead, getting both Mostert and Wilson, etc. Now I think we are seeing Fangio stock the cupboard on defense. Ramsey and his skill in run support is critical for this defense. He's also scheme diverse, so both man and zone will work with him on the field. We all knew we needed an ILB and rapidly, the team signed Long from TEN.

This is my point. Put a solid coaching staff together, and Grier can get them the players they want. The fault in Grier's approach is when the coaching staff making decisions is not a good one. He will draft the wrong guys because that's who they want. Same with free agents.

You may well be correct, W1.    We shall see.

I have been looking at LB David Long and all I can say AGAIN, is why did the Titans let this guy go?!?!?

This looks like a major faux pas if not an outright EFFIN' Mistake!!!

Check out this Baldy Breakdown....  If the link will work....

If Long can stay healthy the way he throws his body around, the Phins may have gotten an absolute steal here!

Titans' window of opportunity seems to have closed with the Jags emerging and Tannehill having reached his ceiling, so they are likely going full rebuild while they look for some QB insurance (Willis looks like far from a sure thing to be kind).

I don't know how true this is, but supposedly Aaron Rodgers is blackmailing the Jets: if you want me, you also have to get Marcedes Lewis, Randall Cobb, Allen Lazard and Odell Beckham!  Laughing Laughing Laughing   This is better than Ringling Brothers!  clown clown clown

Great line from NBC Sports Edge:
"It's unclear how many former Packers need to be on the Jets' roster before he accepts a trade to New York, but the answer is seemingly more than one. " Laughing Laughing Laughing

Jets sign Packers WR Allen Lazard - 4 years, $44 million. Have to see the guaranteed money, but on the surface that seems like a lot for a pretty mediocre receiver.  Then again - Aaron Rodgers is apparently the new GM, so gotta stock up on Packers castaways!

EDIT: $22 million guaranteed, which isn't bad at all. Sounds like it is essentially a 2 year deal. In that case, I'd call it a good move.

Now I'm openly rooting for them to re-sign Gaskin and just run back the RB room. Cool Laughing

I don't think Gaskin sticks on the roster, this time. Did we really carry four tailbacks last year, plus the fullback?

Might be only three this season...

I definitely think we'll draft a back, but it may not be till day 3. Not sure if we'll keep 3 or 4 backs...maybe 4, and then one or two on the practice squad.

The Chargers just cut LG Matt Feiler. He started 16 games for our OC, Frank Smith, in 2021. I wonder if Smith will want to bring him to Miami? I don't know much about him but he's HUGE...6'6", 330.

Okay, so I've actually been sitting on this for weeks now. Did you know that Gaskin actually has the second most career rushing yards of any RB drafted in the 7th round since 2012? Shocked Shocked Shocked I sure didn't before I checked.

https://stathead.com/tiny/LGL9W

And he's second in receptions too.

https://stathead.com/tiny/flf6X

"But 316," I know you're thinking. "Gaskin's nothing special." And you're right, he's not--and I like him. But that's precisely my point--drafting RBs in the 7th round every year like Grier's decided to do is not an optimal strategy if someone like Gaskin is the second best one you'll find in a decade. He needs to shit or get off the pot, as people where I live say. Either draft a RB higher or don't bother.

I actually like Gaskin too. Nothing special, but just a smart, solid back. He'll be playing somewhere else pretty soon, but I do like him.

I get your point about RB, but with both Mostert and Wilson in the fold RB is no longer a "we have to draft a guy" position. It seems like Grier is working FA so that we can target specific players rather than being in a situation where we absolutely MUST draft this or that position. If Grier is able to add a safety, TE and OL before the draft, he can pretty much just target players that he and the staff like in the draft - which is a great position to be in IMO.

Lions sign RB David Montgomery. I guess that means they are letting Jamaal Williams walk? That's a big downgrade IMO.

Chiefs sign 49ers DE Charles Omenihu - good move.

The circus continues:

NBC Sports Edge wrote:
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Packers could be requesting "multiple" first round draft picks from the Jets in exchange for Aaron Rodgers.

The Packers, per Schefter, believe Rodgers should fetch a similar deal that the Lions got when they traded Matthew Stafford to the Rams in 2021. It would indeed be a steep price for a 39-year-old quarterback who regularly talks about retirement and has tormented the Packers and their fans for years with indecision on whether to continue his fading career. "The Jets have to figure out what they're willing to pay," Schefter said, adding he "wouldn't be surprised" if Rodgers announces his trade to the Jets this afternoon on his friend's internet talk show.
