Phins visit with stretch TE
The Dolphins have used two of their 30 permitted Davie draft visits on two former Pac-12 receivers who project as stretch-the-field tight ends: UCLA’s Thomas Duarte (53 catches, 877 yards, 10 touchdowns last season) and California’s Stephen Anderson (41-474-2 TDs).
Duarte, 6-2, a potential fourth- or fifth-round pick who turned pro after his junior year, lined up at receiver at UCLA but projects as a flex tight end who could create matchup problems in Adam Gase’s offense.
“His size and catch radius make him an imposing threat down the seam and one who could continue to be effective in the red zone at the NFL level,” CBS’ Rob Rang said. “He's a bit of a one-trick pony, winning on crossing routes and down the seam because of his size.”
Anderson, who could go undrafted, played two years of tight end and one at receiver and averaged 14.4 and 11.6 yards per catch the past two seasons.

whether or not Duarte is the right guy or not, i don't know (although 10 TDs looks nice), but i do like the idea of finding a seam-threatening TE.

Not a bad idea. Personally, I believe our TEs were vastly misused under Lazor, and simply implementing the Gase offense will feature them far more.
Cameron, I believe, can be a very effective weapon for us. There's still a good chance Sims blossoms also, although we all acknowledge last season was a disappointment from him.

if he can stay healthy - and stop dropping balls. but yes, he's shown in the past to have the potential skills.

i like Sims in the short-area box, but i'm not sure he has either the speed or shiftiness to be effective down the seam.

From what I have seen ever video he is playing wide. I saw no blocking from him at all.

Re: Phins visit with stretch TE
I see TE as a big need for this team. Our blocking TE (Sims) isn't a great blocker, and our receiving TE (Cameron) has poor hands and has been a one-year wonder in the NFL. And, I think both are free agents in 2017.
Re: Phins visit with stretch TE
Sims must be showering with Dallas Thomas, because his BLOCKING was abysmal in 2015!!
And his receiving is meh also IMO.
Cameron had a bad year, but at least he was open some. Maybe expecting to get slobberknocked on Tannehill's off-time throws had something to do with it??
Finding a sleeper TE late might be the best option. The Phins need MORE picks. Trade down.

Simms was never the same after the concussion.

I wish Miami's D could learn to cover and stop a TE.

Against Brady it's not possible. DL have to either get to Brady or get their hands up. One of the reason I love the tall DE's. The same thing happened with Tyrod Taylor. If he starts scrambling it's impossible to cover anyone that long.

Gotta allow the defense to change up if you want to be able to cover TE. If you don't give your defense different looks then they will get run over.

Agreed. The Phins D was TOO vanilla last year.
I am hoping we have seen the last of the Coyle (non) coverage schemes though.
