I've seen his name mentioned a few times, but nothing really of note. Sounds like just a camp body at this point, but there's still time.
Re: Training camp reports and notes
Wait just a gosh darn minute...you mean to tell me there are TWO Scarletts on the team???
Now my brain's going to hurt for the rest of the day...

Pretty impressive job by Grier...not only identifying TWO Scarletts, but actually being able sign both of them!

Re: Training camp reports and notes
Hunter Long back at practice today, doing some individual drills.
Re: Training camp reports and notes
Practice is just a light walk-through today.
Eich is back and playing RT, with Kindley at LG. Jesse Davis is absent because his wife just had a baby.
Needham practicing both nickle and boundary.
Waddle, Grant and Perry all fielding punts today - and both Grant and Perry had drops.

Re: Training camp reports and notes
As injury prone as seemingly all the WRs are, if Flores actually has Waddle returning kicks/punts, it's a sure sign that Grier's insanity is rubbing off on him

Waddle will definitely be returning punts - that was a given with whoever drafted him. He's too good to not use him in that role. I think he'll share the punt duties with Grant.
Re: Training camp reports and notes
I think Grant is a likely trade away player. I thought maybe we would get a OT or OG in return. More likely, a draft pick.

I will be furious if Grant is traded for yet another O-lineman who can't cut it. You've been warned.

Re: Training camp reports and notes
I initially thought Grant would be cut/traded, but I now believe he's a near-lock to make the roster. The team clearly likes him and they are giving him lots of reps and opportunities. It seems to me that he is part of the plan.

Re: Training camp reports and notes
Yesterday's joint practice with the Falcons had a starting OL of:
LT Jackson
LG Eichenberg
C Dieter
RG Hunt
RT Davis
Too early to say for sure, but this seems like it could be the starting OL moving forward. My guess is Kindley becomes the extra lineman when the Phins use their 'jumbo' short-yardage package, but that's just a guess.
I know Dolfans everywhere are in panic mode about the OL, but IMO this has the makings of a solid line if everyone continues to develop.
Sounds like Hunt is playing really well and Dieter is holding his own, and we know that Davis is dependable if unspectacular. We really need to see improvement from Jackson, and Eich will likely have some rookie growing pains. But overall, I do think this line could have a bright future and I don't think it's time for doom and gloom forecasts.

Re: Training camp reports and notes
Agree.
Jackson seems to be struggling the most, but he's also the youngest (I think) and we knew he was a "project" when we drafted him.
I really hope he pans out.

What's interesting about Jackson is, he doesn't give up a lot of sacks. Only 4 last season, which for a rookie LT is pretty damn phenomenal, and none against the Bears. Now, he does give up too many pressures - but they're not translating to sacks, which is at least something somewhat positive.
To me, it seems to be an issue of pure strength. Jackson doesn't get beat early - he can get his hands on a lineman right away, and he does have the quick feet to position himself well. But, it seems he can't sustain the blocks and too often gets pushed back. That, to me, shows a lack of functional strength. We do have to keep in mind that he's only 22, and basically had a whole year where he couldn't do much working out after he donated bone marrow to his sister.
All this to say that if the issue is one of strength, that is something Jackson can work on. I do not look at him and see a lost cause. I see a lineman that has good technique, good feet, and a lot of athleticism. If he can continue to get functionally stronger, I see no reason why he can't become a very good/great LT.
Consider these stats from 2020:
--Jets rookie LT Mekhi Becton allowed 7 sacks on 691 snaps, which works out to a sack every 99 snaps.
--Dolphins rookie LT Austin Jackson allowed 4 sacks on 848 snaps, which works out to a sack every 212 snaps.
Yet the "expert analysts" in the media talk about Becton like he's the second coming of Orlando Pace, and they completely dismiss Austin Jackson.
(And for the record, the first LT drafted that year was Andrew Thomas, #4 overall - who performed worse than both Becton and Jackson with 10 sacks on 978 snaps - a sack every 98 snaps).

Some injured players getting closer...
Barry Jackson

Eric Rowe was apparently very good against Kyle Pitts yesterday, and that is continuing today so far.

And shortly after I post this, I read that Kindley starts today's practice as the starting LG! I guess we have a battle going on at that position!

@WingfieldNFL
And now Hunter Long has a catch from Jacoby Brissett for about 15 – on the play, Liam Eichenberg stonewalled Dante Fowler Jr.

Eich working as second-team RT right now.
Re: Training camp reports and notes
TE Adam Shaheen kicked ass yesterday, scoring 3 TDs. Sounds like he's doing great today too.
Re: Training camp reports and notes
Omar Kelly
@OmarKelly
Austin Jackson just pancakes Fowler in O-line vs D-line one on ones.

And, another WR goes down:
Some people are saying it looks like a hamstring injury.
Barry Jackson
@flasportsbuzz
Lynn Bowden writhing in discomfort after a catch, being attended to by trainers as he lies on the ground. Dolphins already without 5 WRs.
