Miami must sign a veteran corner
Jack Scharr wrote:The Miami Dolphins have been active this offseason in building their defensive line. They have signed Mario Williams, Cleyon Laing, Andre Branch, Farrington Huguenin, and now Jason Jones. Miami has left no stone unturned, in regards to replacing Vernon on the defensive line and creating a dominant pass rush and brick wall against the run. It’s clear that Miami wants to be physical up front.
The Dolphins must now turn this same attention to their secondary and add another veteran cornerback. The Dolphins were 21st against the pass last year, allowing 31 touchdowns through the air, 53 passes longer than 20 yards, and 13 passes longer than 40 yards. Those are not encouraging numbers. The Dolphins have to do something to turn them around.

I have to agree with the guy. Adding someone like Hall or Cromartie would be a good fit for Miami D.

Cromartie might be motivated for one last pay day. Hall, coming off back surgery doesn't do much for me. I'd rather roll with what we've got. Let the rookies and Lippett play and take their lumps.

Corner is the weakest position on the team, but there's not much that can be done about it now. I think the free agent CB market is pretty much dried up at this point. Cromartie is done, and we already have a couple of slot corners so Hall doesn't make much sense. Unless someone decent gets cut in June, the Phins will have to go with what they have.

Makes me wonder how we'll use the blitz. Usually when you're weak at corner you want pressure, but if you blitz, you have to get there immediately because your coverage stinks, so usually you'll rely on front 4 pressure.
That being the case, against any line that can block us up front, we should be picked clean apart.

One of Miami's problems for years has been ineffective blitzing. We've blitzed a lot in recent years, but only rarely got to the QB in time to disrupt the play. Honestly, in this new defense I still don't see any blitzers. In theory, the front 4 should be good enough to generate enough pressure without using blitz-heavy schemes, but we'll have to see if that theory holds true. But yeah, I agree - if we don't get pressure, this secondary will get destroyed.
