So, here's what that means for the Dolphins:

If Schefter is right that we are not getting a 1st or a 2nd, and the Browns no longer have a 3rd this year, that means the best we can hope for is a 4th this year and something next year. So, yeah, we traded Landry for crap.

Meanwhile back at the ranch........i am loving the browns intestinal fortitude. First Landry and now Tyron Taylor. The slickest thing ever is they still have the 1st and 4th pick in the draft. Taylor by no means an elite QB but the guy can ball. His ability to use his legs, his pocket presence, low interception ratio will only get better with a guy like Landry. If they get Barkley and then say Calvin Ridley. This team could be dangerous. Tyrod Taylor, Duke Johnson/Saquon Barkley, Josh Gordon, Jarvis Landry, David Njoku.

I think that 2004 is the record. It was over in late December 2003 when Wayne announced Wanny would return.

Then again, 2015 was over in December 2014 when Ross announced Failbin's return after the meaningless Minnesota win.

Trading Ajayi and Landry for basically two picks between # 123 and # 135 in this year's draft. Yippee.

I not only think 2018 is already finished, but 2019 as well. I have zero confidence that this team will do anything with these draft picks as long as Tannenbaum is calling the shots, and I have zero confidence that the players we DO take will amount to anything with Gase as their HC.

This all boils down to having a head coach that doesn't know how to deal with players that have a personality. It's Joe Philbin all over again. Ajayi and Landry marched to their own beat - and Gase couldn't handle it. So now, our already-poor roster is significantly worse.

As I said a couple of weeks ago, year 3 under Gase the offense should be all systems go, firing on all cylinders. Now, we're going to have to start over and re-shape the entire offense...and pray that free agents and draft picks are the answer. And we all know the Dolphins' track record with free agents and draft picks.

It's been said many times in recent years, but this team has no identity. We could have built a tough, never-say-die team around Ajayi and Landry, adding players with similar attitudes...but now they're both gone and we're left with zero toughness and zero personality. Who is the face of the franchise??? I have no idea. It sure isn't the QB, and it sure isn't the DT that makes more $ than a lot of QBs. Landry was the one offensive player we had that was respected around the league, and the one player who fans could root for. Now? Nothing. It's disgusting.

And if we had gotten a 2nd for Landry - which was NEVER going to happen - I could live with it. But a 4th and a 7th - in different years, no less - is embarrassing. We set ourselves up to fail in this Landry situation, and we failed. What a surprise. Hosed again.

Oh, and by the way...

The Browns had two fourth round picks: #103 and #125. Of course, the Phins are getting #125 for Landry...which will probably drop even more once compensatory picks are awarded (assuming any teams get 3rd round comp picks). Ugh.

Love all the spin I'm reading on other message boards about how Landry didn't know the playbook, Landry is just a slot receiver, and now Gase can open up the offense and spread the ball around.

All bullshit:
--if Landry doesn't know the playbook, how is he catching 100+ passes a year, and why did Gase make him the focal point of the offense?
--show me another slot receiver that catches, blocks and runs routes better than Landry, and who means more to his team. You can't. And don't underestimate Landry's blocking - that will be a HUGE loss for the Phins.
--Gase is a bullshit artist. If he wanted to open up the offense and spread the ball around, why didn't he?? He's the one that made Ajayi an every-down back, and he's the one that calls short passes to Landry all game every game. If Gase didn't want those things to happen, why did he do them? Isn't he the person in charge of the team? It sickens me to see people continue to defend this snake-oil salesman head coach we have - he's a total fraud.

With John Dorsey running things, Cleveland will get better quickly. As soon as he hires his own coach, that's probably going to be the final puzzle piece there.

How I wish the Dolphins had considered turning the football operations over to him when he was available.

Getting Landry for essentially the same compensation that we got for Ajayi (who did at least have injury concerns) was really great work. Getting Taylor, who is a solid, and still young upgrade to the QB's they have, for a third is also really good work.

The Browns have already lapped us IMO. We will have a top 3 pick next year.

Bingo. And it's been that way since, I guess, 1998, the last year that Jimmy really gave a damn. He was the last coach here who was thick-skinned and gutsy. We've had one coach right after another who would simply ship out alphas rather than try to work with them. And no, Saban doesn't count. Maybe with the players, but the first time he made a significant personnel mistake (with Brees) he went whining back to college.

Gase simply isn't the guy. We know this in March 2018, but Ross won't figure it out for at least another year. We all figured this out about Philbin before the end of 2013, but Ross didn't for two more years. Sparano, Wanny....it's the exact same mistake over and over again.

Meanwhile other teams hire football minds like Roseman and Dorsey and let them do their thing. We get stuck with rejects like Tannenbaum, Hickey, Ireland or we let an unqualified head coach run everything.

The Dolphins do not work harder, nor do they work smarter. Especially not smarter. I can't even get enthused about the draft at this point. If we take a good player (i.e. Mayfield, Nelson, James) he will be shipped out when the regime changes, probably for peanuts. Or, we will blow the pick. The latter is the more likely scenario, because the talent evaluation sucks.

The Pats trade with the Browns and get better. The Fins trade with the Browns and get worse. 'Nuff said.
