2018 NFL Draft Thread
Hopefully everyone can update and discuss our picks.
I'm working 4-12 Thurs & Fri but hope to follow when I can. As you all probably know my personal hope is that any one of the top QBs drop to 11 or we move up and draft one of them. If they are off the board get a D playmaker but I do want them to at least draft a QB in a later round that will get a chance to compete and grow.

I've actually got a busy day Friday so I'll be going to bed by the time the Fins pick. I'll have to find out they took Vea tomorrow morning.
Glad to see JEGnj starting threads again though I remember on the old site they got mad when he did that.

Re: 2018 NFL Draft Thread
Great idea, JEG. I'll try to check in while I'm watching tonight.
I'd actually be OK with the Vea pick, even though it's not an impact position. He's got great highlights, but what really impressed me was watching him run the 40 at the Combine. I know the 40 isn't a great indicator of football talent, but I never imagined a dude that big could move so fast and gracefully. Watching him play, he already looks to be way ahead of any DT on the Phins' roster.
JEG, I wouldn't get your hopes up for a first round QB...not happening.

Mayock has us taking:

Hopefully Edmunds becomes more than "solid", but I could definitely see him being a Phin if he falls that far.
Mike Mayock wrote:Tremaine Edmunds - LB, Virginia Tech
He gives the Dolphins tremendous value at the position and helps bolster their defense. Perhaps Miami will go with a quarterback, but Edmunds gives them a solid defensive player.

Re: 2018 NFL Draft Thread
BTW - in Mayock's draft, we have our choice of Edmunds and Fitzpatrick. That would be a tough call for me. I think I'd lean toward Fitzpatrick, but a lot depends on how the Phins think. The two big questions are:
1. Do the Phins really see the need for a free safety and would they actually use Fitzpatrick there?
2. Would the Phins use Edmunds at MLB - where he should be IMO - and move McMillan to strong-side LB? Or will they leave McMillan in the middle and put Edmunds outside?
Bottom line for me: if they plan on using Edmunds outisde, I think I'd rather have Fitzpatrick at FS. But if they would use Edmunds inside, I might go with him. Edmunds has the higher ceiling as a player, IMO - but Fitzpatrick could be a playmaker and leader of the secondary.
Good problem to have...both are strong players that can help us. I think we are in good shape at 11...provided Tannenbaum doesn't screw it up by doing something stupid, which is entirely possible.

Armando has the Phins trading down with the Packers, and taking LB Rashaan Evans at 14. In return, they'd get the first pick in round 4 from the Pack...giving them three picks in the 4th and probably enough ammo to get an extra 3rd if they want.
Evans is a helluva LB...but I would not be a fan of this move. In Armando's scenario we'd be passing on James, Fitzpatrick, Ward and Vea. And, Fitzpatrick is still on the board at 14. I think any of those 4 would be better than Evans.

The Browns continue to keep the decision on their No. 1 pick a secret, but there is a mounting belief from head coaches and general managers around the league that Cleveland will take quarterback Baker Mayfield, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Thursday.

Yeah. I like the idea of getting the first pick of the 4th round for moving down a few spots, and reading the rest of Armando's post he seems to think that Belicheck loves Evans enough to move up for him (and therefore thinks he has to take him there). I like Evans and he'd instantly upgrade our starting LB's, but I agree that there are better players on the board in this scenario. I would prefer to move down again and get him if he's the target, and if the Pats grab him, there will still be impact starters available for us in the second half of the round. The extra picks in the 2nd through 4th rounds are gold this year.

I'm not buying it. I think it's Darnold...and if not, Barkley.
Re: 2018 NFL Draft Thread
Rumor that the Saints are looking to trade up for a QB. If Rosen falls to 11, maybe the Phins can make a deal.
But I hope not. I don't want any trades...I'm confident we can get a stud impact player at 11.

Re: 2018 NFL Draft Thread
Saints would be an interesting possibility, and we'd get an extra first rounder in 2019 for that trade. Likely the 27th pick of the 3rd round too to go with # 27 overall this year.
Interesting possibility. If Rosen falls to 11 I just don't think I'd pull the trigger on him (too many questions for my taste), but I think Gase might.

Re: 2018 NFL Draft Thread
I want no part of Rosen. He comes across as an immature, arrogant asshole and his durability is a big concern. I don't have a problem with arrogance in a QB - but when arrogance is combined with "immature" and "asshole", it's not a good thing.

JMP wrote:Armando has the Phins trading down with the Packers
the problem with that theory is that if Packers are going to trade up, its most likely to get in front of teams (Bucs, Bears, Niners) that are targeting the same players they are...
http://www.espn.com/blog/green-bay-packers/post/_/id/44512/trade-talk-packers-might-move-up-for-a-top-three-defensive-back
perhaps if they couldn't move up that far they would be more likely to still try and get in front of the Dolphins (like the Raiders pick at 10) who seem likely to be going after a defensive playmaker as well.

Yeah, and the biggest flaw in Armando's mock is Derwin James still being available at 11. I just don't see any possibility of that happening.
Re: 2018 NFL Draft Thread
Well supposedly Miami going after Allen from Wyoming but at the same time this came out from him
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/2772684-adam-schefter-people-believe-team-may-have-leaked-josh-allens-racist-tweets
There is reportedly belief that an NFL team was behind Wednesday's leaking of racially insensitive tweets posted by quarterback Josh Allen in 2012 and 2013.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, two people have theorized that a team publicized the tweets so Allen would drop in the 2018 NFL draft and fall to them.
Allen is among the top quarterbacks expected to go in the first round of the draft on Thursday night.
Per Ryan Young of Yahoo Sports, Allen deleted several tweets from his high school days, many of which included the N-word.
Allen also appeared to write, "If it ain't white, it ain't right!" in response to a question on Ask.fm.

The comparisons are definitely there with the way Rosen looks and acts. I also think the two QBs have similar footwork issues...they have be perfectly set or it's a disaster. As we know, in the NFL you can't always set your feet perfectly...gotta be able to adapt.

The "If it ain't white, it ain't right!" comment might be a concern, but taken out of context I'm not sure exactly what he meant. And, there were other tweets where he used the "n word" when talking about his friends...I'm willing to dismiss those, because a lot of people (white, black or purple) use the word that way.
So, ultimately I think this is a non-story. Definitely something to think about tonight, though, if he does start to drop.
Re: 2018 NFL Draft Thread
Dumb as shit if you ask me. This presents a problem and if any NFL team is responsible the League should stand up and fine that team.

If you took things I said out of context, I'd look like the biggest bigot on the planet. Then again, I'm a white male, so that's the default premise for people of my weak melanin pigmentation proclivity. He owned up to it, and he was 14 or 15. I can see how people want to hold him to the fire, that time of your life you're really smart and on top of things, and have a fully-formed opinion about everything and your words from then should shape everyone's opinion of you forever.
Also, we all know there are no people playing football, nor have ever played football that had any kind of poor feelings for their fellow man. There have been absolutely no racist thoughts in the NFL ever.

I wouldn’t mind any of these three; Vea, Roquan Smith or Edmunds. We need an impact, day one starter. Looks like these gyyare that.
