Re: Head coach search
Given his injury history, I could accept a trade of Howard assuming we get a 1st or 2nd round pick in return. Or better, we use it to trade UP to get a QB this year.

9 minutes ago. Mando put this out on Twitter: "Dolphins have a mystery HC candidate. Details coming."
I can't wait to find out who it is. Damn!

New Orleans DC Dennis Allen.
I like that he has head coach experience. Good candidate.

Allen wouldn't even be on my list. He was absolutely BRUTAL as the Raiders head coach a few years back. Granted, that was when the Raiders were in cap hell and just a complete dumpster fire. Regardless, certainly not a good showing by Allen. He's done a helluva job with the Saints for sure, but looking at his overall career there's not a lot of positives that jump out both as a head coach and a defensive coach. He's been part of some really bad teams.

Valid point.

Re: Head coach search
I may not like Allen, but I do like the approach...talk to a guy that's part of a great team and working under one of the league's best coaches. No more taking coaches from garbage teams!
Re: Head coach search
BTW, X. Howard was named a second-team All Pro. Awesome to see a Dolphin on that list!!!
Re: Head coach search
Btw, Mando reporting that Campbell is not interested in Miami, so that explains why he’s not on our list.
Disappointing. Would have liked to see him here instead of Gase, in hindsight. At the time, Gase was the coach everybody wanted. Oh well.

Re: Head coach search
I don't blame Campbell for not wanting to come back to Miami for several reasons. I'm sure spite is high among them.

Re: Head coach search
Campbell's in a good spot. He's getting head coach interviews already, and if nothing works out this year, he gets another season to learn under a top coach with a great organization. Win-win for Campbell. He doesn't need the Dolphins. But I am confident that the Phins will regret letting him go..maybe not just yet, but it's coming.
Re: Head coach search
How about this for a scenario:
John Harbaugh to the Phins in exchange for Xavien Howard and a pick (say...a 2nd rounder). Would you do it?
Myself, I'd do it in a heartbeat. Harbuagh is a proven winner and this year he showed that he can adapt and change when necessary. I'm all in!
Seriously, I do think John Harbaugh is a possibility...especially if the Ravens lose this weekend. Go Chargers!

Re: Head coach search
Sounds like Ross doesn't want a Harbaugh and is looking for someone outside of the norm that Miami is use to. Actually I mean Grier....which is still weird to say since Ross was in everything.

I definitely think John Harbaugh is very much on Miami's radar. If Harbaugh wants out and the Ravens are willing to negotiate, it could happen. It's a long shot, but you never know...
Re: Head coach search
Ross definitely wants Harbaugh. He wants the one in Michigan to stay there, and he wants the other one in Miami.
X Howard plus a 2nd round pick, yes I'd do that deal all day. Landing a proven coach would be well worth the price.

Per NFL.com Miami never requested an interview with Campbell.

Supposedly this is not totally off the books.....
Justin Heir wrote:According to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio, the Dolphins are seriously considering making a formal call to the Baltimore Ravens to discuss a possible trade for current HC John Harbaugh. The price the Ravens will ask for in exchange for their Super Bowl winning head coach will be the sticking point. According to Florio, the price could be as high as two first-round draft picks, a cost that will certainly be more than Ross and Grier are willing to accept, though some postulate that the Ravens would be more reasonable.

I don't like this idea because a coach has to want to coach a team for them to win and trading for a coach that would want to be in a certain location wont coach the team well.

Re: Head coach search
No coach in NFL history has won a Super Bowl with two different teams. Shula, Parcells, Mike Holmgren and Dick Vermeil are the only four off the top of my head who even got there with another team. Just throwing that out there. I personally would not trade for Harbaugh no matter the price. The days of trading away picks should've been gone when Tannenbaum was.

Agree with Dolfan. I would not trade draft picks for any coach.
In the Super Bowl era, those four are the only ones who won one with a team and got a second to a Super Bowl. Dan Reeves got two different teams to the Super Bowl but never won.

I'm also in agreement with DF316 and Hal. I like John Harbaugh, but not for two first round picks. If we're going to let Grier run the show, he's going to need materials to work with, and taking prime picks away for a coach is a bad idea, in my opinion.

Hearing that a lot of the Dolphins interviews have been very short - including the one with Kris Richard.
Hmmm...just killing time till they can trade for Harbaugh maybe????

I hate giving up draft picks, but I'd do it for Harbaugh. We've gone way too long with trash head coaches...time to change that.
Re: Head coach search
Agree on both points. Drafting is only part of our problem. Coaching and player development is another.
Harbaugh solves the coaching problem. Then just work on finding talent.
Our roster right now is brutal. Plus, we have no plan right now on getting a franchise QB. Some coaches are just not going to be interested. Either that or they aren’t accepting front office structure. Or, they don’t believe in building a team the way Grier wants. Or first round chat is short by nature.
No way to tell really. I’d love to hear one of these interviews or all of them.

Re: Head coach search
Baltimore has a coach killing QB on their roster. Lamar is a novelty QB. Harbaugh might want out rather than coach him.
